Welcome to United Lutheran Seminary Library & Archives Finding Aids Database

United Lutheran Seminary Library & Archives contains two major archives: the Seminary Archives and the ELCA Region 8 Archives. On this website, you will find the finding aids (collection descriptions) of the fully and partially processed collections ULS holds. This information is fully searchable (below) or you can choose “Repositories” or “Collections” above to browse what we hold.

The Seminary Archives is composed of material relating to the history and day-to-day operations of The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg and United Lutheran Seminary. It also houses the papers and manuscripts of the Rev. Samuel Simon Schmucker (founder of LTSG) and those donated by former professors, presidents, alumni, and friends of the Seminary.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Region 8 Archives is the official repository for five synods of ELCA Region 8: Allegheny Synod, Delaware-Maryland Synod, Lower Susquehanna Synod, Metropolitan Washington D.C. Synod, and Upper Susquehanna Synod.

Both of these archives are held in the A.R. Wentz Branch Library of United Lutheran Seminary in Gettysburg, PA. You can search ULS Library’s book catalog here to find other, related material we own, such as historic periodicals and the minutes of synods and denominations.
