Biographical / Historical
Mervin Roy Hamsher was born in Fayetteville, PA on October 3, 1882, the son of Oliver C. and Clara (Hoffman). He received an A.B. from Bettysburg College in 1904, a B.D. from Gettysburg Seminary in 1908, and D.D. from Gettysburg College in 1934. He was ordained in the West PA Synod in 1908. He served as pastor at Avonmore, PA (1908-10), St. James, Pittsburgh, PA (1910-1913), Emmanuel, W. Etna, PA (1913-1914), St. Matthew, York, PA (1914-1921), Resiterstown, MD (1921-1923), Trinity, McCanicsburg, PA (1923-1938), Trinity, McAlisterbilla, PA (1949-1954). He served as president of the Central PA Synod from 1938-1948. Hamsher retired in 1954.
