Biographical / Historical
Charles E. Liebegott was born in 1888 in Altoona, PA to George Liebegott and Anna Hicks. Liebegott graduated from Gettysburg College in 1912 and from the Lutheran Theological Seminary Gettysburg in 1915. He was ordained in 1915. Liebegott married Clara Elaine Poplsen (daughter of Peter Popken and Mary Wolters) in September 1915. They had one child, Lois E. Liebegott died on April 21, 1939 in Akron, Ohio. His grandson Reverend Victor A. Myers also attended Lutheran Theological Seminary-Gettysburg.
He served as an Army chaplain during World War 1. When he got back the served at Hebron Lutheran Church in Avonmore, P.A. from 1915-1917, Temple Lutheran in Pittsburgh, P.A. from 1917-1920, 7th Street Church, Lebanon, Pa., 1920-1930, and at St. Paul’s, Akron, Ohio, from 1930-1939.
