Biographical / Historical

Philip Willard was born in Jefferson, MD on Sept 29, 1809, the son of George and Susanna (Culler). He graduare from Gettysburg College in 1839 and Gettysburg Seminary in 1841. He was licensed by the W. PA Synod in 1841 and was ordained by the Maryland Synod 1842. He served as pastor of Manchester, MD, 1841-1842; Lovettsville, VA, 1845-1848; Danville PA, 1850-1856; Loysville, PA, 1856-1858, Mifflintown, PA, 1858-1861, Schuylkill Haven, PA 1861-1862. he worked at Gettysburg College in 1849 and the Lutheran Board Publishers 1863-1868. He served as superintendent of Loysville Orphans' Home, 1868-1889. he married Margaretta Christzman on October 21, 1841 with whom he had 6 children. He died July 26, 1893.
