Biographical / Historical
Rev. John Raymond Houser Jr. was born on August 14, 1925 in Philadelphia, PA to John R. and Gertrude Houser (Drawbaugh). Her served the United States Army from 1943-1946. He married Alice B. Fausold on June 12, 1950 and had three children, J. Ray III, Jill, Patricia, and Martin.
Rev. Houser received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Gettysburg College in 1948; attended Yale Divinity School from 1948-1950; received a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1951; and attended American Graduate School, Copenhagen, Denmark from 1951-1952.
In 1953 he was ordained by the Pittsburgh Synod and received a call to Industry, PA where he served Ohio View from 1953-1958. He served as Pastor Developer at Holy Redeemer, Southgate, Michigan from 1958-1967; Assistant Camp Director for Michigan Synod (LCA) from 1967-1970; Director of Camp at Wisconsin-Upper Michigan Synod from 1970-1974; and Pastor at Rehoboth Evangelical Lutheran Church in Barden, PA from 1974-1989.
Rev. Houser retired in 1989 and passed away on July 18, 2008 in Aliquippa, PA.
