Biographical / Historical

Dr. Bengt Hoffman was born April 15, 1913 at Kinna, Sweden. He was a pastor of the Church of Sweden (ordained May 22 1938) and was installed as professor at Gettysburg Seminary in 1969. Later he was Professor Emeritus of Ethics and Ecumenics. He is the author of Luther and the Mystics and a translator and commentator of Luther's edition of The Theologia Germanica. He was a former director of the Lutheran World Service. He was a frequent contributor to various journals, and the leader of many retreats. Hoffman died on April 14, 1997.
