Biographical / Historical

The Evangelical Alliance was formed in 1846 in London, U.K by Ridley Haim Herschell, Rev. Edward Steane, John Henderson, and Sir Culling Eardley. The aim of the alliance was to create an organization composed of professing Christians of different denominations for the purpose of promoting Christian union.

Rev. Simon Samuel Schmucker was the leader of the American Branch in the Lutheran General Synod. Rev. Schmucker received the title of “father” of the Evangelical Alliance during a transatlantic conference in New York in 1873 by F.W. Conrad.
